President Prabowo Subianto has always had a strong bond with farmers, as stated by Dedek Prayudi, Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO). This connection dates back to Prabowo’s military service, where he received support from local communities and farmers. It further solidified when he led the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI). Recently, during a grand corn harvest in Jenggalu Village, Bengkulu Province, Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka emphasized the importance of the Food Security Program. In light of global challenges, such as potential disruptions in food supply from major exporters like India and Brazil, Indonesia must strengthen its food security. The program aims to increase agricultural productivity by providing subsidies for fertilizers, pesticides, and machinery to motivate farmers. With around 47 percent of subsidized fertilizers still unused as of August, local officials were urged to expedite administrative processes for farmers’ access. Kelik Budianan from the National Food Agency pledged support for Prabowo’s initiative by collaborating with the State Logistics Agency to purchase farmers’ corn harvests. Additionally, efforts are underway to streamline supply chains between farmers and livestock breeders to improve market conditions for both sectors. The collective efforts of government agencies, local officials, and agricultural stakeholders signify a commitment to enhancing food security and farmers’ well-being in Indonesia.
