Ensuring Children’s Well-Being: Nutrition, Health, and Safe Schools

National Children’s Day in Indonesia, as celebrated on July 23, 2025, holds significant importance beyond just a yearly event. President Prabowo Subianto aims to leverage this occasion to implement tangible actions towards safeguarding the future of the nation’s children. Dedek Prayudi, a Senior Expert at the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), highlighted three key programs introduced by the government to directly enhance the well-being of children. These programs include Nutritious Free Meals (MBG), Free Health Checkups (CKG), and School Revitalization.

Known as Uki, Dedek elaborated that the MBG initiative is not solely focused on providing children with food but also ensures they receive essential daily nutrition. Data from the Ministry of Health revealed that a significant number of school-aged children attend school without having breakfast, leading to issues such as lack of focus and iron deficiency anemia. Consequently, the Free Health Checkups involve comprehensive assessments to monitor various health aspects like height, weight, vision, and mental health among students.

In line with the constitutional mandate under Article 28(H), Paragraphs 1 and 3 of the 1945 Constitution, guaranteeing health rights for all citizens, including children, the government is committed to fulfilling these rights through crucial programs like CKG. Moreover, the School Revitalization Program aims to refurbish 11,440 schools across Indonesia, addressing structural damages and providing better learning environments, particularly in underserved areas.

President Prabowo has allocated significant funding towards these initiatives in the national budget for 2025, recognizing the urgent need to address the deteriorating state of schools in the country. By prioritizing the most affected schools, the government aims to ensure that students, especially girls, have access to safe and dignified learning spaces. These efforts emphasize the importance of providing a conducive environment for children’s development and well-being in Indonesia.
