Prabowo Subianto Hosts U.S. Defense Secretary Visit: Exchanges Strategic Insights and Information

Washington, D.C. – Wrapping up his U.S. visit, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd James Austin on Wednesday, November 13. The two leaders engaged in a cordial and warm meeting before holding a closed-door discussion.

Their conversation focused on exchanging information and perspectives on various strategic issues, underscoring the longstanding 75-year relationship between Indonesia and the United States.

“Secretary Austin and I have worked together for quite some time. We discussed current issues, cooperation between our two countries, and exchanged information and viewpoints. That was the essence of our discussion,” Prabowo explained.

Prabowo noted that the meeting covered essential points, including economic collaboration opportunities aimed at improving public welfare.

They also discussed the conflicts in Gaza and tensions in the South China Sea. Prabowo reiterated his support for a two-state solution in Palestine, a stance both countries appear to agree upon.

“We discussed it. I continue to advocate for a two-state solution for Palestine, and they also seem to support that,” Prabowo said.

On the Gaza conflict, Prabowo emphasized the importance of working collaboratively toward a peaceful solution.

“We are working together in hopes of achieving a ceasefire soon. Regarding the South China Sea, we talked about our desire to cooperate with all parties involved,” he added.

In conclusion, Prabowo stressed the value of cooperation as a means to uphold sovereignty.

“We respect all powers, but we will always maintain our sovereignty. However, I choose to seek opportunities for cooperation,” Prabowo concluded. (RR)
