The Free Health Check (CKG) program, described as the initial step toward a healthier nation by Hariqo Wibawa Satria, Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), aims to change people’s mindset about prioritizing their well-being. Hariqo emphasized that CKG is where awareness begins to blossom, encouraging individuals to make their health a top priority throughout their lives. As Indonesia commemorates each Independence Day on August 17, Hariqo envisions not only celebrating another year of freedom but also witnessing a rise in the number of Indonesians free from illnesses.
President Prabowo’s administration has implemented a range of ongoing priority programs, such as CKG, the “Stop TB” campaign, enhancing public hospitals in regional areas, and offering special benefits to medical professionals serving in remote regions. Despite celebrating its 80th year of independence, Indonesia still grapples with diseases that pose economic and social challenges to its citizens. The current life expectancy of 73-74 years is overshadowed by illnesses that hamper productivity and GDP growth.
Studies have revealed that illness-related productivity losses, including absenteeism and reduced work performance, shaved off a significant portion of GDP in 2015. Moreover, economic losses from smoking, obesity, and tropical diseases have further burdened the country. Hariqo emphasized that investing in health is not just a social expenditure but also a strategic economic advantage. Addressing the health issues faced by Indonesian children is crucial, especially with rising cases of diabetes, obesity, and tooth decay due to a lack of health education. Excessive gadget use has also led to vision impairments in children.
The significance of CKG lies in its dual role as a preventive measure and health education tool. The goal is for each Independence Day to mark progress in freeing more citizens from illnesses, allowing them to actively contribute to national development and economic progress. A healthy population not only enhances life expectancy but also boosts human resource productivity, consequently fostering economic growth. Improving public health can potentially increase GDP by 1-2% annually through a significant drop in illness rates.
