Wirotirta and Aryana, two young Pacu Jalur performers, were beaming with joy during the Independence Day celebrations at Merdeka Palace on Sunday, commemorating Indonesia’s 80th anniversary. Their wide smiles never faded as they had the opportunity to showcase their talents before President Prabowo Subianto. The children expressed their excitement and gratitude for the chance to perform and even shake hands with the President, describing it as an unforgettable experience.
Dressed in vibrant green traditional Malay attire, the Pacu Jalur children mesmerized the spectators with their synchronized and energetic movements, bringing the essence of regional culture to the national platform. The crowd erupted in cheers and applause, creating a festive atmosphere in honor of Independence Day at the palace grounds.
The festive spirit continued with a thrilling display of martial arts by a pencak silat troupe, followed by a performance of the traditional Indonesian art of self-defense by action star Iko Uwais. The celebrations were beautifully wrapped up with the graceful Tari Payung Merah Putih (Red-and-White Umbrella Dance), enhancing the cultural richness of the Independence Day festivities.
The children were not only proud but also deeply touched by President Prabowo’s kindness when he clasped their hands post-performance.
