National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional, BGN) is pushing for the integration of nutrition education into the national school curriculum in Indonesia. This initiative aims to cultivate a healthier, more intelligent, and globally competitive generation of Indonesians. According to Ikeu Tanziha from BGN’s Nutrition Expert Council, structured nutrition education within schools is essential for developing a strong grasp of nutrition from a young age. It goes beyond just food, as it shapes a child’s future health, critical thinking, and contributions to society. By introducing topics such as basic nutrition concepts, food group classification, nutrient functions, and the impact of unhealthy eating habits, students will learn to make informed dietary choices. Practical skills like cooking and gardening will also be part of the curriculum to empower students in applying their knowledge in daily life. The integration of nutrition education into schools is expected to strengthen the message of balanced nutrition across society, aligning with the vision of Indonesia’s Golden Generation 2045. It is crucial for disease prevention, improving quality of life, and supporting the Free Nutritious Meals Program. BGN urges government bodies, schools, parents, media, and the public to support this initiative, emphasizing that comprehensive nutrition education is key to realizing the program’s full potential.
